Who Is the right Candidate for Emsella at StayDry Centers?

What causes Incontinence and bladder leakage?

For women, the most common causes of bladder leakage include vaginal childbirth, body aging, and menopause. For men, incontinence can be brought on by medical conditions like an enlarged prostate, diabetes, and Parkinson’s disease. It can be common after some types of prostate surgery, too

When you urinate, contracting muscles force urine out of the bladder and down into the urethra. Simultaneously, sphincter muscles around the urethra relax to release the urine out of the body. Incontinence results when the muscles or nerves that help release or retain urine are damaged. The two most common types of urinary incontinence are stress urinary incontinence and urge incontinence. Both can be treated by Emsella at Stay Dry Centers.

What is Stress Incontinence?

Stress incontinence is the most common type of urinary incontinence. It refers to urine leakage during exertion or movement (coughing, laughing, sneezing jumping, etc.) The main cause of stress incontinence is vaginal childbirth or menopause. Stress incontinence occurs when the tissues that support the bladder are stretched or weakened, allowing the bladder to exert pressure downward on the sphincter muscles that keep the urethra shut. This prevents the muscles from closing as tightly as they need to for urinary retention during physical stress.

What is Urge Incontinence?

How does Emsella at Stay Dry Centers work?

Emsella is the first, non-surgical device of its kind to gain FDA Approval for the treatment of urinary incontinence and vaginal laxity. Emsella is an ergonomic chair equipped with High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic technology (HIFEM®). During a treatment, the fully clothed patient sits on the chair. Who isn't a good candidate for the Emsella Treatment?

The Emsella treatment uses HIFEM technology (High Intensity Focused Electromagnetic Stimulation), and because of this there are certain patient conditions we recommend against treating. If you have a pace maker, a drug pump, a cochlear implant or a neurostimulator implanted we recommend against treating with Emsella. Also if you have any metal implants near the pelvic area (including metal hip replacements and lumbar spine screws) we may recommend against treating. During your initial consultation with our Emsella Technician we will discuss any contraindications with you. How long is the Treatment? How many sessions will I need?

The experts at Stay Dry Centers will tailor a personalized treatment plan for you. A typical treatment takes about 30 minutes and you will need 6 sessions, scheduled twice a week for three weeks. If your bladder leakage is severe we may recommend additional treatments, but normally 6 achieves desired results. Many patients will tell us they start to see benefits in as little as one treatment. The most common comments we hear is “I slept through the night without having to go to the bathroom” and “I had a coughing fit and nothing leaked!” We love hearing those.

What does the treatment feel like? Is it painful or embarrassing?

This is the true beauty of the Emsella chair at Stay Dry Centers. The procedure is fully non-invasive and you just sit on the Emsella chair fully clothed and properly positioned. Once the 28-minute session has started you will experience tingling and pelvic floor muscles’ contracting, it is completely painless. When will I see Results?

As with any medical treatment, results may vary.* Some patients report an improvement in bladder control after one treatment with Emsella at Stay Dry Centers. However, for most patients, the average treatment plan includes 6 treatments in total, with two sessions held weekly, for 3 weeks. Some patients report desired results toward the end of their 6 sessions, others report results a few weeks after the end of treatment. Every”body” is different, but research shows that 95% of patients who followed the average protocol reported an improvement in quality of life after just 3 weeks of Emsella, and that two thirds of the patients completely eliminated or reduced their need for pads.
